NM United, San Diego Loyal SC play to 1-1 draw
New Mexico United hosted San Diego Loyal SC on Saturday night at The Lab in the club's 2023 home opener.
The Black & Yellow looked to get back to their winning ways after two straight losses on the road.
Captain Sam Hamilton would get the scoring started early for NM United, netting a deflection off San Diego's goalkeeper for a 1-0 lead.
The equalizer came in stoppage time of the first half when Evan Conway's header slipped past United keeper Alex Tambakis.
Both sides would keep it scoreless until the final whistle, playing to a 1-1 draw.
"There's zero doubt in my mind that everyone on the field played fighting football tonight," said New Mexico United head coach and technical director, Zach Prince. "We were excellent in the way we approached the game with our mentality and responded from a performance in Monterey, where we were very disappointed with ourselves after."
New Mexico United returns to action next weekend when they visit Colorado Springs Switchbacks for a 6 p.m. first kick on April 22.
