After snapping a five-match win streak against Birmingham Legion FC two weekends ago, New Mexico United returned to their home pitch on Wednesday night.The Black and Yellow is hosting Rio Grande Valley FC in a two-match homestand at The Lab.The match would be scoreless until the 84th minute when Justin Portillo capitalized on a penalty kick drawn by Jerome Kiesewetter. The goal was Portillo's fifth goal of the season, tied for a team-best. "I thought our execution could've improved and did improve in the second half," head coach Zach Prince said. "We really saw ourselves create more chances, make it more difficult for them defensively.""Luckily we drew the penalty and kind of from there it's just walking up and kicking it," Portillo said. "So all the credit goes to the guys that were involved in the play and Jerome for drawing it."New Mexico United is back in action on Saturday night at The Lab looking for a sweep over RGVFC. The first kick is set for 7 p.m.
