New Mexico United ready for revenge rematch against Phoenix
New Mexico United has revenge on its mind heading into the much-anticipated match-up against Phoenix Rising FC on Tuesday night.
The game, originally scheduled for Saturday night, was postponed due to COVID-19 cases within the Phoenix clubhouse.
New Mexico enters the third game against Phoenix at an 0-2 disadvantage on the season. The last time these two teams met was in mid-April for back-to-back matches.
United dropped the first match 1-0 in USL regular season play, while falling to Phoenix in the U.S. Open Cup just days later.
Head coach Zach Prince says he still has a chip on his shoulder when reflecting on those two outcomes.
"That bad taste in our mouth is still there and I'm still irritated with those two games that we played back-to-back against them," Prince said. "Looking forward to this next game against them and I'm glad that we get to do it in front of our fans."
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at UNM Soccer Complex on Tuesday night.
